Specialty Coffee Roasters

2149 Catharine St suite b, Philadelphia, PA 19146
It all started back in ’95 when Counter Culture Coffee was founded in Durham, NC by Brett Smith and Fred Houk who met while Brett was in business school at UNC. They sold their first bag of roasted coffee to Pop’s Trattoria in Durham, NC. In ’02 their facility became the first certified-organic roaster in North Carolina on the first day it was possible. In 2007 they launched their “Source” line of coffees: a 12 oz retail bag design focused on single-origin coffees. That year, the Source line won best new product at the annual Specialty Coffee Association of America conference. In 2012 they became a founding member of the Coalition for Coffee Communities—an organization established to help address food security issues in coffee communities that set a precedent for pre-competitive collaboration. And there’s so much more. Today, more than 25 years later, they’ve got various traning center around the US, and they still focus on sustainability and in sharing they’re knowledge and their experiences.
